Verdura Jewels Sparkle at the Opening of a New Permanent Gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston
6/14/2011Verdura will showcase five pieces from their archives at the opening exhibition of a new permanent gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
The Rita J. and Stanley H. Kaplan Family Foundation Gallery, opening on July 19th, is the first permanent gallery space for jewelry exhibition in an American art museum. Curator Yvonne Markowitz has helped build a collection of nearly 11,000 pieces over the past several years. Five select pieces from Verdura's archives will be on view to inaugurate the gallery's first exhibit, "Jewels, Gems, and Treasures: Ancient to Modern." Among the featured jewels will be Coco Chanel's original "Maltese Cross" cuffs and the "Indian Headdress" Tiara (above), designed for the presentation of Betsey Whitney in 1956 at the Court of St. James in England.
