Reviewing Verdura’s childhood memoirs, Happy Summer Days, for The Sunday Times in 1976, Raymond Mortimer wrote, “…little Fulco and his sister, like their father, far preferred the brute creation to most of the human beings they knew.” Verdura’s childhood passion for the animal world was later translated into his jewelry designs and in 1943, he created his whimsical “Honeybee” cufflinks.
